12:30 pm June 12, 2003 (total travel time 28.5 hours)
Standing directly on the other side of the customs inspection was my lovely Niña. She was standing there, cell phone to her ear – waving at me. I recognized her right away – and she seemed to have recognized me right away. I later found out that there was another guy on a different flight whom she thought might have been me.
Niña had sweet-talked the security guard to let her into the customs inspection area. It was great – my anxiety about where we might actually meet was alleviated. She gave me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek, then handed me the phone. Her sister Bing was on the phone and wanted to know how my trip went. I guess everyone was worried that I missed my flight or got caught in quarantine since it took me so long to get out of the secure area after landing.
A driver from Plantation Bay was also waiting there. I went up to him and informed him of my arrival, and Niña informed me that her aunt and uncle were there with their driver to take me to the hotel – so the representative from Plantation Bay said he would inform the hotel of my arrival and Niña headed out to meet up with her aunt and uncle to head to Plantation Bay.
